Home Services Franchise Opportunities Built Around Your Leadership
A home services franchise lets you run a local company that fixes, cleans, and maintains homes. Trained crews do the physical work. I help corporate professionals find the model that fits their capital and their life, then prepare them for franchisors who look hard at every candidate.
About Home Services Franchise Opportunities
Most people I talk to picture a home services franchise as a guy with a ladder and a truck. The franchise owners I work with look nothing like that. Most come out of sales, operations, and finance. Their days go to hiring technicians, answering homeowners, and watching the numbers. Many simply want to be their own boss and build some security for the future.
I’m Irving Chung, a former franchise owner and a franchise consultant, and you can read how I got here on my story page. The home services category covers maintenance, repair, restoration, and home improvement franchises. Including essential trades such as plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and cleaning franchises. Many of these maintenance services repeat on a schedule and stay rooted in local communities. That gives owners a steady base of residential and commercial customers.
The numbers explain why so many people want to own a home services business. FRANdata’s 2026 home services spotlight projects this segment’s franchise output will top $143.3 billion this year. That’s 3.2% growth over last year, the fastest of any franchise industry. Franchise units in the segment also grew about 3.7% a year from 2021 to 2024.
Brands within this booming industry run very different business models, and each one caters to a different kind of owner. The Premium Service Brands family alone shows the range, according to its franchise brands page: 360° Painting, a painting franchise that serves residential and commercial property owners inside and out. Rubbish Works, which offers junk hauling and dumpster rental services and gives owners ongoing support and marketing resources. The Grout Medic, a tile and grout cleaning brand with over 30 years of industry experience. House Doctors, which has handled home repair for over 20 years through professional handyman services. RooterMan, which provides plumbing, sewer, and drain services. ProLift Garage Doors, which repairs and installs garage doors for residential and commercial clients
I name these brands to show how the models differ, not to rank or recommend any of them. My consultations cost you nothing, and if a home services franchise doesn’t fit where you are right now, I’ll tell you so and point you toward a franchise opportunity that does.
Is a Home Services Franchise Right for You?
This model works well if you:
Have $50,000 or more you can put to work
Initial investment in this category swings widely. Across the home services brands that Franchise Business Review lists as of August 2026, investment runs from $41,416 to $2,796,495, and minimum cash runs from $25,000 to $200,000. Mr. Handyman asks for $50,000 in cash, and 1-Tom-Plumber asks for $100,000. DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen lists an investment of $329,705 to $654,860. Most candidates pair minimum liquidity of $50,000 to $100,000 with financing options such as U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loans, a home equity line of credit (HELOC), or a 401(k) rollover.
Would rather manage crews than climb ladders
House Doctors, for example, says its franchisees don’t swing a hammer. They lead teams of technicians instead. Many owners run their company as an executive-owner business, with a field manager on the job sites.
Like working from a proven playbook
Proven business models come with pricing, scheduling, safety, and quoting built in. A franchisee who stays committed to that system tends to outrun independent operators.
Enjoy the sales side of a business
Homeowners hire people they trust. If you enjoy meeting customers and following up on estimates, you’ll feel at home here.
This probably isn't for you if:
Hands-off ownership sounds ideal to you
Semi-passive ownership still needs your leadership, especially during the first year. You’re building a company, not buying a stock.
Your budget needs a paycheck by month two
New owners typically need several months to ramp up. Plan for an investment period before cash flow turns positive.
Delegating feels hard for you
If you want to do every job yourself or approve every detail, your crews will stall and so will your growth.
"I've had people call me back two, three years later after my consultation because I told them they needed to save at least $50,000 liquid capital. I said, go save your money and come back to me when things are simpler. And they do."

You Don't Need Trade Skills or Industry Experience to Own a Home Services Franchise
Entrepreneurs often tell me they've never fixed a roof or rewired a light switch. They don't need to. Franchisors in this space rarely require industry experience, because owning a franchise here means leading people, not doing labor.
Your technicians do the work
You run the company
The franchisor fills the gaps
Labor and licensing remain the real challenge. Many trades need state or local licenses, and good technicians always have options. FRANdata notes that more young workers are choosing skilled trades, which has improved labor availability and pushed home service franchises to invest more in training and workforce development.
Your industry experience matters less than your management expertise. The corporate skill set you’ve built, from leading managers to reading a profit and loss statement, carries straight into this role.
"I always tell people, your job is to shake hands and kiss babies. What does that mean? Well, you know, you got to hire people, motivate them to work. You got to talk to clients potentially, convince them that your services are what they should use. And then you get your team to go deliver it."

Why an Insider Guide Matters in Home Services
Choosing a home services franchise is easier with someone who has sat on both sides of the table. I owned and operated my own franchise before I became a consultant, and I meet with home services franchise CEOs twice a year. The category’s growth attracts brands from across the nation, and they don’t all deserve your money. The quality of the franchise system shapes your odds of success more than the category does. Private equity firms also keep buying and combining home services brands, according to FRANdata, so ask who owns the franchisor and what that means for your support. Here’s what I help you sort out before you commit:
How a brand’s training, software, and marketing hold up for owners with no home service background
Whether a model fits your capital, your time, and your appetite for urgent customer calls, from a two-person remodeling crew to a cleaning team of a dozen or more
What approval teams look for in a first-time owner, including capital, coachability, and a hiring plan
Which warning signs to take seriously, such as thin support, saturated territories, or weak franchisee satisfaction
Most people I talk to have no clue about what franchise they want... I get excited when I hear that, because it comes with open-mindedness.
